Chigusa Kodomo-En (Chigusa Children’s Park)

This structure located in Numata-Shi, Gunma Prefecture was built as a response to a request from the project owner to “Design and Build a Care Center that offer open design where everybody can naturally mingle freely”.
In the center of the structure features a large open space created by compound beams arranged in a lemon wedge shape at 3.4°spacing leading up to a central skylight cupola and anchored over the care rooms arranged around the central open hall. The central hall offers a common area for children of different ages to mix and mingle freely.
At the rear of the central stage, there is a built-in slide with a balcony along over the care-rooms as well as a roof top deck allowing for the entire building to be used as one large playground.
