The Kindergarten built in Iwaki City, Fukushima is designed with a feature Canvas Covered Roof structure over the center Playground, lets soft natural light into the building which creates and airy open environment.
The roof is a hipped roof design with exposed Timber Rafters along which the Canvas Joints are centered to give the entire ceiling the bright clear look.
The interior balcony that runs along the 2nd level and the various built-in amenities adds to the versatile use of the interior.
The first floor structure which houses the administration room and care rooms surround the 1st floor playground space is a Traditional Japanese Post & Beam construction is based on 120mm x 120mm Sugi Columns from Fukushima and finished with wood paneling.
The roof frame utilizes exposed 60mm thick x 270 to 420mm wide Glue-Lam Beams spaced 450mm apart. The combined effect is a clear and airy environment with soft natural light.
